April 2018 Goal Setting

A new month means a time to look back at what you set out to do, analyze, and decide what is still important to work on for this month!  Goal setting not only creates your plan to smash your goals and dreams, but it a way of staying accountable. I am here to help.

Disclosure: There are some affiliate links below, but these are all products I highly recommend. I won’t put anything on this page that I haven’t verified and/or personally used. You can read my full disclosure here.

In the past, I have talked about my goals, what I did well, and what I still need to work on.  At the end of the post, I then stated what my goals for the current month was. It was a way of keeping me accountable, but did it really help YOU?

(Like for real, I would LOVE to know what you thought!  Either comment here, send me an e-mail, or a message on any social media platform!  Deets are at the end of this post!!)

This month, I’m going to try something new.  I am going to share the pages of my bullet journal and briefly describe the page.  I do the same thing pretty much every month: set up my monthly layout and my gratitude page, assess my key priorities, take a personal inventory, and then do a brain dump!  Which, by the way, are my favorite! I love doing brain dumps. The feeling after I am done getting all the ideas out of my head is so freeing. If you have not done a brain dump for ANY of your dreams/goals, I highly suggest you try.

I also set up an outline for my Instagram and blog posts.  I try to batch some content together that is truly meaningful, thought provoking, or that I think may help you.  If there is something that you are struggling with, please please message me somehow! I am here to help!

My Bullet Journal

I know I have written about this in the past, but i have tried SO MANY different methods and types of journals.  The one I keep going back to (since learning about it) is my bullet journal. I just get a blank dot grid journal from Amazon and fill it with whatever spreads suit me and my needs!

Easy-peasy lemon squeezy!

I have learned about different spreads from googling “bullet journal,” searching in YouTube, and going to www.bulletjournal.com.  All of these sources are great and there are endless possibilities of what you can do!  I have found what works for me, but I am constantly tweeking the layouts to better suit my needs and goals as needed.

I don’t want to give away all my details, I am writing a goal setting ebook.  This should be available SOON. My goal is by the end of the month. Is this something you would be interested in??

Let’s get into my journal.

The monthly layout I do acts as a print calendar for me to keep things straight.  I color coat the types of meeting and events I have so I can see where I am spending my time.  I split things up into four categories and try to divide my time equally among them all, but I do try to spend more time working on my blog and trying to bring you the best content I can.

The gratitude log is to keep me in a positive, happy mindset.  It’s really hard to be in a bad mood when you think of something you are grateful for.  This could be big things, or the tiniest of things like a pad of paper to write ideas on.  Some things I have been grateful for in the past include sunshine after gloomy days, a phone call with a friend, good night’s sleep, zumba, foam rolling, my friends and family, and a rain storm as I fell asleep.  What are you grateful for?

Now Let’s Plan!

Now I get into assessing my key priorities based on 10 specific areas of my life.  These aren’t rated on how important they are to me, but rather how I feel they are going in my life.  If you have been lacking in the gym and feel like your physical health is declining a bit, you would rate that lower.  Then, based on your lowest “scoring” area, you would pick that to work on for the next 30 days.

Then, based on my key priority area, I define 10 goals to work on for the next 90 days, with at least 3 of the goals focusing on improving my area.  Finally, I write one more goal, an 11th goal, that will act as a domino effect on the rest of my goals. Chalene Johnson calls this a PUSH goal, I just call it an Ultimate Goal.  This goal catapults your priority to accomplishing all 10 goals, or at least the majority of them.

A Personal Inventory

One of the last planning stages that I do is take a personal inventory of my habits.  What I need to do less often, more often, and stop doing altogether. I also figure out what I need to learn, test, or try in the upcoming month to hit my Ultimate goal, and what I hope to feel when accomplishing it.  This last step is so important at keeping that momentum alive throughout the month. Feelings are very powerful.

LAST STEP

This is probably my favorite step.  This is where I do a brain dump, or a brain vomit.  Everything that I can think of that I need to do in the upcoming month – no matter how small.  This can be (and should be) an ongoing list. If you think of something a few hours later, a day later, or even a week or two later – write it down!  Each day, you will pick 3 – 10 minute tasks to complete to get closer to your goal. That’s why this brain dump is so mega important!

I hope this inspires you to do some planning this month.  If you don’t have a bullet journal or any journal to do this planning in, start with a piece of paper!  Anything that you have that you can carry around with you will work!! And, stay tuned for the release of my e-book that will be a step by step guide to this process and will even have some templates for you!

If you would like to be one of the first to know when this book is released, make sure to sign up for my email list and become part of the Tribe!  I promise not to spam you or bombard you with emails!  As always, leave me some feedback either here, below this post, e-mail me (megs@thewheellifeblog.com), or on any of my social media platforms!
