Traveling to D.C. (again)

December is a month full of traveling for me.  I usually only travel 3 times per year and am traveling two times within two weeks of each other.  This is the first trip.

Twice a year, I get to go to Washington D.C. for a big meeting for work.  In case you are new, I am a research coordinator for a county hospital as we are 1 of 14 systems across the country that is an SCI Model System.  What that means is that we participate in a nation-wide study with the intention of increasing the quality of life for those living with spinal cord injuries.

This meeting, twice a year, brings all the model system sites together to talk about emerging data, the latest summary of the database and site-specific project presentations.  I always have a good time meeting new people and seeing those that I have met before and work with on collaborations.

Pentagon City

So, our meeting is at the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City – a little outside downtown D.C.  This hotel is attached to the Fashion Centre Mall and it’s absolutely gorgeous this time of the year for the Holidays.  The past couple of years, I have purposefully saved (some of) my Christmas present shopping for this trip and have enjoyed finding gifts at a different location than home.

The surrounding outside area is full of other little shops and restaurants, so there is really no need to go anywhere in a car while I’m there.  It really is a nice little area. Monday evening we went to a Lebanese restaurant as a little group and I have grown to love this little restaurant.  Except for my first Project Director’s Meeting – where I seemed to have a little stomach bug – I have been to this restaurant every time I’ve been there.  The weather didn’t really cooperate, so I couldn’t film anything while getting there and, obviously, wanted to be present at dinner and not try to film while there.  Maybe next time.

So, in this video…

In this video, you will see a vlog of my time there.  I give you a tour of my hotel room, what works and what could be better – along with a tip to make beds more accessible if needed.  You will also get a tour of the mall and what makes it so gorgeous this time of the year.
