Goal Setting: May 2018

We are 5 months into 2018 already!  How crazy is that?! Goal setting happened per usual for me, but I know I usually get goal posts up on the 1st or 2nd of the month.  I am not going to lie: The weather has FINALLY decided to warm up and I have been taking advantage of that and getting my fill of vitamin D on the daily! (With the proper sun protection on, of course – see Melanoma post for the background story if you aren’t familiar).  This goal setting post is going to be a bit different. Usually I go through the previous month’s goals, talk about my progress, any setbacks, and then discuss my goals for the current month.

Disclosure: There are some affiliate links below, but these are all products I highly recommend. I won’t put anything on this page that I haven’t verified and/or personally used. You can read my full disclosure here.

Well, at the end, I will still give you a few goals that I’m working on, but instead of looking at the past goals and my progress, I want to talk about something that has happened to me in the last month.

A Mindset Shift!  Whaaaa?!

I think this shift is exactly what I needed in order to start working on my full potential.  Building new habits does take time, so the impact of this shift won’t immediately be seen, but I know the steps that I must take.

For the longest time (probably since I decided to start an online blog/business) I have been trying to cram everything I can in one day, every weekday.  Work, business, workout, unpack/repack, go to bed, repeat. Then, on the weekends, I was so burnt out from the week that I do almost NOTHING productive.

Cue Netflix Binge

Then, Monday starts again and I repeat the cycle, all the while beating myself up for not being productive on the weekends.  Well, here’s where the mindset shift comes in. I can only do what I can do, and my enough must be enough for me.

Allow me to repeat.

I can only do what I can do, and my enough must be enough for me.

So, testing this out in May, I am still planning my month and my weeks ahead of time, but then building some breaks into my days.  My theory is this. If I take some time to recharge during the week, I will have the motivation to be productive on the weekends – thus building more consistency with my business. Not to mention having a cleaner house more consistently.

So, like I have written about in the past, I am planning my day with doing 3 – 10ish minute tasks that move me closer to my goals.  I am also going to batch content together and schedule things out in advance, so I can do some bigger tasks throughout the days and on weekends.  I have finished writing my goal setting ebook, but I need to create time to research how to put it together and publish it on my blog for sale.

Which, ps, I am super excited about this book!  I know you will love it! It’s my step by step process and the WHY behind all the planning I do on a monthly basis!  If you struggle with reaching goals, be on the lookout for this book!

I have also started another adventure as a wellness coach for women that want to make small  lifestyle change to promote a healthier, happier life! (email me if you are interested in more details).

Lots going on

I have plenty on my plate, as I am sure many of you can agree with about your life.  The goal is to work smarter, not harder. In my opinion, that means taking the time to do the things you enjoy.  Binge watch Netflix, go for a walk, do to dinner with friends. Making money, building a better life, should not equal work, work, work, all the time!

I just did my same cycle this weekend.  Saturday was a great time with my family, but Sunday I did absolutely nothing.  But, instead of being mad at myself for not being productive yesterday, I am accepting what is, making my to-do list today of things that I HAVE TO get done, and then filling the time with some relaxation and some things that I want to get done.  Whatever doesn’t get accomplished will go on the list for tomorrow or the next day. No worries, no sweat.

We are not perfect

No human is perfect.  I think that’s in the definition of a human being.  Stress and anxiety often comes when we put more pressure on ourselves than we can handle.  If this week does not go as planned, there is always next week. Same with today. If I don’t accomplish everything I want to do,

there is always tomorrow.  Learn to give yourself some credit for what you do get accomplished; not hate yourself for not doing more.

This is why I love my Brain Dump page in my bullet journal.  It’s a list of everything that I want and need to get done. It keeps growing during the month, but I can also see everything that I have accomplished too.  Then, I transcribe some into my weekly to do lists. Whatever I do not get done gets the “wait list” until the next day, or next week. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Self-love Yourself!

Learn to give credit where credit is due.  Give yourself props for all the things you have accomplished! Not the few things you haven’t.  And if something doesn’t go as planned? Yell “Plot Twist!” And move on! Does anything ever go as planned??  Instead of putting yourself down, start to build yourself up!

As always, leave me some feedback either here, below this post, e-mail me (megs@thewheellifeblog.com), or on any of my social media platforms! (FB/IG/TW @wheellifeblog and Snapchat @megsh8).  I would love to hear from you and what I can do to help.

Let’s keep those happy thoughts, productivity and self-care going!  Live honestly, passionately, and with kindness!

  1. Hello ,

I saw your tweet about animals and thought I will check your website. I like it!

I love pets. I have two beautiful thai cats called Tammy(female) and Yommo(male). Yommo is 1 year older than Tommy. He acts like a bigger brother for her. 🙂
I have even created an Instagram account for them ( https://www.instagram.com/tayo_home/ ) and probably soon they will have more followers than me (kinda funny).

I have subscribed to your newsletter. 🙂

Keep up the good work on your blog.

    Regards
